elem-help-bks to reinforce vwl sounds

Greetings Fellow LM NETters,

I thank anyone in advance who can supply titles of any trade books that
provide a lot of reinforcement of vowel patterns, short, long, etc.
There was at least one book publisher that listed some titles in a
newsletter. When I went to junior high level from elementary 2 years
ago, I got rid of a lot of such items. Now I'm back in a K-8 school and
wishing I'd kept more!

If memory serves me correctly, there's a book having to do with a
birthday cake that had a lot of words with long vowels. There was at
least one book listed for reinforcement of each short or long vowel
sound and vowel followed by r. Even one title will be welcome.

I searched the LM NET archives and found someone had posted a similar
target last fall but no hit. I know "phonics" is a controversial topic
but I have a resource teacher who'd like to use literature to strengthen
sound/symbol correspondence.
