It was in the sixties and seventies that I was teaching in Boston and
used it for a unit on Propaganda. I used it from Reader's Digest. It was
article length. Obviously it was reprinted. It was a lovely young teacher
who came to the class and their older teacher was sent to be
"rehabilitated". It took her about one hour to gain complete control of
the children's minds. She turned them against all ideas of patriotism and
the significance of the flag. I remember she said that if the flag was so
important shouldn't each child have a piece of it. She cut the flag into
little pieces. I believe she attacked their belief in God too. She told
them to pray for candy and see if it appeared. Of course it did not. She
then told them to put their heads down and she placed candy on each desk.
It was the ultimate brainwashing of small children. The country was being
overthrown by a totalitarian government. This was back when the threat of
communism was great. I don't know the title but perhaps contacting
Reader's Digest with this info would help.
