Source of quotes

Sorry to bother the list, but I have a school board member who needs to
find the source of two poems and two quotes and has tried Index to Poetry
and Bartletts and spent hours in a bookstore to no avail.  Anybody out
there able to help?  I've told her this list will be able to do it!

"When you part from your friend you grieve not; for that which you love
most in him may be clearer in his absence as the mountain to the climber
is clearer from the plain."

You Are Not Forgotten:
Not a day goes by
But what somehow I find a memor
Telling me you are not forgotten
If I had the time to write each day
Every letter to you would say
You are not forgotten.

The Pleasant Mile:
People come into our lives
And walk with us a mile
And then because of circumstance
They only stay awhile
They serve a need within the days
That move so quickly by
And then are gone beyond our reach
We often wonder why
God only knows the reason that
We meet and share a smile.
