LCD Panel Replacement

My aging b/w Sharp LCD panel just gave out, and it would cost too much to
repair, considering its age and capabilities.  So, I need to replace it.
I understand that LCD panels are on their way out (?), so I am exploring
other options, given a maximum budget for this of $3000.  I have an
appointment to see a Sharp XG-E690U multimedia computer/video
projection system demonstrated.  Has anyone had good experience with any
other brand/model that you would recommend I take a look at?  Will
appreciate all comments.  Thanks~
