ELEM: State books

Has anyone purchased the Portrait of America series from
Raintree/Steck-Vaughn?

I am getting ready to buy a set of state books, have sample copies from
several series and just became aware of this one.  No time to get a sample
before decision must be made.  I'd like some feedback from people who have
used it, or at least examined the series, to offer to teachers who will have
input into the choice.

Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated!
