Online Encyclopedias

Has anybody come across any good sites for online
encyclopedias?  I have a teacher who is looking for a user
friendly encyclopedia geared toward high school special ed
students (probably at a middle to Jr. High level).

I have tried to come up with some, but the problem is that a
great deal want you to subscribe to them.  I was hoping for
something free!!!
