I forwarded the request for Native American authors to my friend, hoping
she would send them direct to the person who had requested the authors. However,
she didn't, I deleted - so ALL 7000 of you get to read about Native American
authors.....

For starters, try:

N. Scott Momaday (Kiowa) House Made of Dawn (Pulitzer Prize)
Leslie Marmo Silko (Navaho?) Ceremony
Vine Deloria, Jr. (Lakota) God is Red; Custer Died for Your
Sins
Ella Cara Deloria (Lakota) Water Lily
Tony Hillerman (Navaho) many titles
Louise Erdrich (Chippewa) many titles

There are hundreds. I'm not an teacher, just someone who is interested
in the subject. try contacting Victor Golla at Humboldt State Univ. -
golav@axe.humboldt.edu He's secretary of the Society for the Study of
Indigenous Languages of the Americas (SSILA).

Great topic - good luck!
