I requested help with the pronounciation of Houghton (as in Houghton-Mifflin
) and Knopf after hearing them on NPR wrongly (IMHO). I received numerous
replies that still conflict.

Most replies said I was wong of Knopf as Nawf - the K is pronounced
Only one reply agreed with my pronounciation
Maybe I should have known this since my son lived with a Danish family in
Copenahgen one summer whose name was Knudsen and they pronounced it Ka-nood-
sun!

Houghton came out as follows:

Ho-tun (long o) 5 votes
Who-tun - 2 (one said an employee of Houghton pronounced it thus)
AND no votes for Huff-tun

Thanks,
Cheryl
