REF: Currency

Forgive me if this is a repeat of my earlier request (which I don't think
was successfully posted).  I have a teacher looking for information on Civil
War era coins--specifically how were double eagle (gold?) coins packaged for
shipment from the mint to, for example, the banks?  I have called the US
Mint and the Numismatic society with no luck.  I would assume they were in
bags, but we need to know for certain.  TIA  Pat Dalpiaz
