I was told by our computer coordinate renamed director of technology by himself after two years that I was not meeting the needs of the students by promoting the use of the local area network of cd towers. Those databases include SIRS, Supertom+, Newsbank (2), Grolier's and the card catalog. College libraries will be using internet and if I am to meet the needs of our students we must use Internet instead of these databases. It seems to me regardless of cost, the local area network will provide quicker access plus backissues for at least a decade. Once we subscribe via internet and access is anywhere in the building, who will be there to help students through the how-to's. Is this really what's going on or is this a power play to promote Internet since "we" really don't even know how to use the local area network. Give me your thoughts and if I'm totally out of touch after 26 years of staying technologically literate, let me know.
