Back in the days of chalkboard that actually used chalk, a friend who was
doing her student teaching painted all the chalk in the classroom with
clear fingernail polish.  Her cooperating teacher could find a piece of
chalk that worked, but hers did (because she kept an unpainted piece in
her pocket.)
