TECH: printing message

Every now and then while printing from email I get this message, "[XON
char received.  See "preserve-start-stop" feature in Setup/Config.]"
When this message occurs it is usually because the message is quite long
and my printer starts to "act-up" and prints a "k" before each line of
print.  My computer freezes and I have to hang-up and dial-in again to
un-freeze the computer.  I would appreciate any insight or help you can
offer with this problem.  TIA
