Several people asked me to share the information I received about weather in portland. ALWAYS ALWAYS Bring a raincoat to Portland. Shoes that you don't mind getting wet since you will probably be walking a lot. I've been told Portland is a good pedestrian city. Bring a sweater as the temp drops at night. A coat with a liner would be a smart idea. LAYER LAYER is the way to go. People have found that the convention rooms vary from freezing to stuffy. (I guess that is the same everywhere) This can be a rainy, blustery time ofyear, but not too cold..usually in the mid 50's. Because we don't ever have really really cold weather, you won't find buildings heated excessively. Most buildings are heated to about 70 degrees. Bring a good raincoat, and it helps to dress in layers..a sweater over a blouse or shirt, and you can take off the sweater if you get too warm. Bring a small folding umbrella (or you can buy one for under $8 here) comfortable walking shoes because you will want to explore downtown (be SURE to go to Powell's book store, reportedly the largest bookstore under one roof) and lots of hairspray!! It can also be in the upper 60's to lower 70's..this is a day-to-day type of season, but no extreme fluctuations like you get in the midwest.....80 one day and snow the next!..Our rain is usually gentle, sometimes only a mist. But if the east wind out of the Columbia River Gorge whips up, it can get chilly. Have a good time! Everyone suggests a trip to Powell's and I know that is one place I hope to visit.
