Books on diabetes mellitus

This msg has been inspired by the msg of Ms. Rita Kaikow of Oceanside High
School about books on heart decease.
Diabetes is in my family and I know that it will catch up with me one of
these days. So I am wanting to do a bit of reading about it.
Can any one recommend books for diabetes mellitus that are clinical and
professional in scope but reader-friendly for the lay person. I am
(gratefully) borrowing Ms. Rita's words here because she has expressed so
well what she (and I, too) want ?
