I received 24 responses to the 2 items on technology use in elementary school media centers which I posted on April 23. The original items and results are listed below. 1. Please list which of the following types of information technology are available for student use at your school: 19 - Computer Catalog 24 - CD-ROM Reference Materials 11 - CD-ROM Periodicals Indexes 24 - Computer Software 9 - Cooperative Network Access 23 - Internet Access Other (Please Specify) - Individual items mentioned were laser disks, cable TV, newswire service, digital cameras, and scanners 2. Please indicate approximately how often you incorporate technology in instructional activities: 18 - Every Day 2 - Once or Twice a Week 2 - Once or Twice a Month 2 - A Few Times a Year 0 - Never CD-ROM reference materials and computer software were the most widely available technologies in schools. CD-ROM periodicals indexes were the least available. Results on cooperative network access, access to public, university, and/or other institutional networks, were unclear, due to different interpretations of the term. Many responses related to frequency of technology use in instructional activities reflect classroom instruction in addition to media center instruction. Thank you for your responses. -- Becky Palgi, Media Specialist Lockhart Elementary School Box 189, 1320 Smithfield Road Knightdale, NC 27545 Phone - (919) 266-8529 Fax - (919) 266-8537
