Netters, Here's a great illustration that you could use with students as an example of fact vs. fiction on the Web or as an example of an advertising campaign. The AT&T commercial airing on T.V. is extremely appealing showing 2 entrepreneurs with the concept of rubber sun glasses, trying to sell it to retail, and then coming up with the bright idea to market them on the Web. At the end, presumably after their millions are made, they are pictured sailing into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. So I checked the Website http://www.rubbereyes.com that was quite visible in the commercial and reached an AT&T site with this greeting: "Thank you for visiting the www.rubbereyes.com site. Our TV commercial about a fictional start-up company shows how you can put your small business on the Web. You may want to visit AT&T's business website at http://www.att.com/business/ " You could use have students analyze the commercial. What is appealing about it? What visual effects standout? Is this a product you would buy? How do you think this business began? Even come up with more of your own questions. Ask your students to describe whether they believe the site is fact or fiction and why? Then, have them visit the rubbereyes Web address and write down their reactions. Happy Cybernetting!
