Art software for PC

Hello LM_NET:
As a member of the technology committe at our high school, I have been
asked to find out if there is good software for art teachers to use on a
PC. Our art teacher has no computer now but will be getting one, and would
like a PC if the software is available. I know that traditionally, Macs
have had more graphics-capable software that PCs, but I'm under the
impression that this is changing. What do the art teachers use in your
schools? I'd like some recommendations for good PC art/design software to
suggest to the teacher. Thank you so much for your time--
