PowerPoint and Pictures

Greetings!

I've looked in various listserv archives, but haven't found an answer.  I use
PowerPoint 4.0 for Macintosh.  Is there any way to directly insert jpeg or
gif files into a PowerPoint?  Are there other graphics filters available that
will expand the list of graphics formats that PowerPoint will insert?  I have
both Graphic Converter and JpegView, but would like to be able to have
students insert the pictures directly if possible, rather than having to
convert them to PICT or TIFF format first.
