I was going to let this one pass, but one response got me going. Of course we shelve books--sometimes the alternative is books piling up on carts and eventually empty shelves! There are many librarians who do not have help in the library to shelve. What else can they do but shelve? We are fortunate to have others to help us--but when they are absent, or things pile up for other reasons, we shelve too. It may be poor use of professional time, but a library cannot be useful to patrons if materials are not available. In a perfect world, we would all have enough paid, trained, capable help and would not need to shelve!
