Target:Addict/Book Title

I have a student looking for a book for her psychology class.  Any
ideas?
It's a biography/autobiography published in the 1970s (she thinks) by a
heroin addict.  It's a male, and she thinks pretty famous.  There were
three of us trying to remember - no success.  (It's not Go Ask Alice)
