Many thanks to those who sent their top site favorites: It has helped us add to our
Intranet research site, which our HS students have built and already use
extensively! We're going to expand the INTRANET to go k-12 with separate research
sites listed for MS and ELEM. It's humbling that so many of you seem to be light
years ahead of me in the tech end of things...my excuse is that I have such great
tech people around the school that I don't have to know everything, but... Anyway,
here's the list of sites suggested by the 14 people who responded:

For late breaking news and weather you cannot beat cnn.
www.cnn.com

Boothbay High says that 10 sites is far too few. They sent along their own web page
address so we could have a look at the over 600 sites for HS:
Web Page: <http://www.gwi.net/brhs/>

Library of Congress www.loc.gov (mentioned 3 times)

 Encyclopaedia
Britannica Internet Guide (which is free, and does not include the
encyclopaedia itself). It is http://www.ebig.com.

With all due modesty, I would also recommend my own home page. Everyone who
visits it bookmarks it. It is http://members.unlimited.net/~kumbach. It
includes links to a wide variety of valuable resources, plus some of my own
work (which I also hope is valuable ...). I built the site in part as an
aid to my own work and in part as a courtesy to other folks who need to find
information on the Web.

Some of our history classes are doing research on bills/laws/etc.:
the THOMAS site: http://thomas.loc.gov has all of this legislative info!

And then there is the Smithsonian and the New York Public Library, plus so
many more. I didn't include any search engines - everyone has their
favorite. My favorite search tool is the WebFerret.

 www.hotsheet.com. It's not a standard website but a place with a
lot of links and a good starting point for many.
