Once again I'm coming to you all for help, this time before I submit a budget request for technology for the library. My school (a K--8) is a small one and so is my library. Up to now we have made do with a card catalog and there's been little inclination to move atowards automation. We do have 4 computers in the library, two PCs and two MACs networked to the Internet. Also we have some CDs, e.g. Groliers, National Geog Mammals, 3D Atlas and such available for student use. I am about to request funds for automation and I wonder if you have any idea about how much automation would cost for a library with about 10,000 books. Also , what software would you recommend. Up to now I had always assumed I'd automate with CASPAR, but that was when the school was MAC oriented. Now they've taken away two of the MACs (moved them to the computer lab ) and given me PCs. Something tells me that I will be able to get a couple of PCs cheaper than a couple of MACS . So what software automation program would you suggest? Also, there is a possibility that I could get a tower for CDs for the PCs on which I could perhaps SIRs, a couple of encyclopedias and perhaps a Magazine index with full text articles. Do you think this is a valuable thing for 6th--7th and 8th graders? If so, do you have any idea how much such a Tower arrangement would cost? Thank you again for all your help.
