LM_Netters, I started a new position this fall and seem to have hit a snag recently. Would appreciate your advice. Our Jr. High has a separate computer lab which is networked throughout the building. This past summer the tech person did extensive rewiring and so everyone's connection was down at the beginning of the year. He is slowly getting everyone back on. Yesterday after he had installed the AT EASE setup and configured the library computers (2 Macs) for Internet access, I discovered that I could not access my hard drive. I was having trouble with a CD and tried to reinstall it, when I got the message telling me I did not have access privileges. When I questioned our tech person about this, he said that it was the policy to limit the staff's access in this way. I was astounded! Is this typical? Am I missing something about the considerations necessary to run everything on a network? If you people tell me that this is indeed common practice then I will back off, but it seems to me that he is making this situation unnecessarily complicated. I can't install new software without getting him first!! Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.
