Hello,
     Two days ago I received a phone call from Dee representing ASD.  She
said I would be receiving some sort of invitation in the mail regarding
their site which is "about to go public."  I told her about our listserv and
the recent comments.  She said she was surprised at all of the negative
comments and she wanted to talk to her supervisor about it  At the beginning
of our conversation, she indicated the ASD site was a joint project amony
Apple, IBM, and Vanderbilt University.  She told me that the intent was to
raise money for schools so that they would not be dependent upon government
support for projects.  This would be accomplished by operating programs
similiar to the Campbell's Labels for Education and the Target charge card
school designation that will give identified schools part of the profits
from the user's purchases.  I expressed my concerns about solicitations on
our behalf and apparently at our behest.  I mention the school's implied
involvement in the site which is indicated by ASD's use of first person
plural possesive pronouns in their posting.  I questioned ASD's right to use
the word "our" in presenting the information.  Yesterday she called me to
get more information about LM_NET and any URLs regarding it. Getting back to
the invitation, I suppose that we will all be receiving more information
