My principal has asked me to help gather advice from the library field on acquisions for our family resource center. Newly born at our school, it is a collection of books for parents to check out for parenting/educational support information. Her specific question is in regards to whom we let recommend materials for inclusion and how we should guard against offending certain groups (or including more than we philosophically support. i.e. a conservative (or liberal group) recommends or donates something and we purchase or agree with the addition. Then the "opposing" viewpoint demands to be heard. Anyone have advice or guidelines on how we might set policies to assist us in avoiding a lot of sticky issues? *********************************************************** Marcia Dressel, Library Media Specialist Osceola, Wisconsin Elementary and Intermediate Schools dressel@oz.osceola.k12.wi.us 250 Tenth Avenue, PO Box 128, Osceola WI USA 54020-0128 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST For more help see LM_NET On The Web: http://ericir.syr.edu/lm_net/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
