Book challenge -- resolved!

Thank you all who helped me with this.  Armed with the confidences of 8000
people, I phoned the father this morning to discuss the challenge.  Thanks
to all of you who gave me wonderful arguments supporting the inclusion of
this book in a middle school library, I could speak calmly and carefully
about why we were keeping the book.

The father was not happy but agreed not to file a formal challenge. (Yes we
do have a policy but I wanted to keep it from getting that far.)  I
brainstormed ways for his daughter to choose more appropriate materials for
her and offered to work with her on how to choose books.  He agreed to allow
her to continue coming to the library but will instruct her to stay away
from horror materials.

Thank you all again!  I really needed the support!!
