Thank you for the 21 responses to my query. At least I know what I am
looking for and have some phone numbers and information to pass along to
our colleague. I will send personal thanks as I have time! Since I use
pine and don't know how to do fancy cutting and pasting I will summarize.

Book Bird was a PBS series produced by Montgomery County Public Library,
Wisconsin and hosted by John Robbins. He was an artist that (read/told?)
parts of classic books such as: Little House in the Big Woods, Caddie
Woodlawn, Misty of Chincoteague and others.(Some said 14, some said 16
different books). During this (reading/telling?)--15 minutes, by the
way-- he sketched illustrations and did just enough of the story to pique
a students curiousity and then encouraged them to read the whole book.

Some responses indicate the series is still running (reruns?)but most said
they are not. The suggested ages range from 3rd through 6th grade. One
response said they are available from Children's Television International
and another gave me the number for PBS Video(1-800-344-3337) One school
got them via the Campbells Soup label program! I even had
offers to duplicate copies if the copyright issues are cleared(Andy, I'm
still waiting to hear from you! :-).

I will pass along all of the good advice to my colleague tomorrow and let
him decide. Once again, the power of this list came through.
