I was going to let this one pass by but after the posting Graham Small tried to put
over
on us this morning <g> I decided to investigate the origin of this simile.

According to the book, *Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins, 2nd ed.* by
William and Mary Morris (Harper & Row, 1971) the saying is
"Happy as a clam at high tide". Seems clams can only be harvested at low tide.
Wouldn't you be happy to?

>I always heard it was "Happy as a clam at high tide."
