Well I attended my first challenge today. A parent challenged judy blume's_ Then again, maybe I won't_. The parent, whose 4th grader read it on the recommendation of the media specialist, was not happy with the content for 4th grade. Her child did not know what a wet dream was or any of the other sexual things. It was interesting. Only one person on the committee wanted it removed because she thought that it was not a very good piece of literature. The result was to look for a way to flag the book and if a child younger than 5th grade took it out, the parents would be called to warn them of the subject matter, but the book was left on the shelf. The guidance counsellor was upset by the peeping tom aspects and said that this is a form of harrassmet. Has anyone else had a similiar compromise in a challenge situation? Michele Missner Michele W.
