Hello All, I have enjoyed reading some of the posts in this thread and decided to throw in my two cents. I admit, I am not an avid reader. I missed out on the pleasures of books when I was young. Reading was never encouraged or pushed on me in my family life - where the emphasis on reading needs to be! However, even though I do not get excited about reading, I feel I missed out on something. That is what I want to give to the children at my school. I do not want them to miss what I did. I LOVE reading to them. I get very animated and theatrical and the kids love it. As a result of being a librarian I do read more - but still do not love it. So, I believe you can't measure a librarian simply on how much they love to read. You measure a librarian on how much time and effort they spend with the children (not a book). One example for thought, do coaches always excel in their sports? No. I have had excellent coaches in volleyball winning many championships - but my coaches couldn't play volleyball to save their life. They could, however, inspire us and teach us how to become better players. Can't a librarian do the same thing? Feel free to flame me personally :) Jody Hildreth [svcselem@borg.com] Library Media Specialist Sauquoit Valley Elementary School [www.borg.com/~svcselem/sauquoit] Kirkland Bird Club [www.borg.com/~svcselem/kirkland] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
