...at the risk of being flamed.... I do enjoy reading. But I believe that you don't have to love reading to be a whole complete person. I know many very worthwhile individuals that don't read for enjoyment. Some of them are educators. Do you have to read to be a good librarian? I suppose that it is helpful especially when you come to the aspect of promoting reading. Someone once told me that they thought that was the most important part of our job. I don't feel it is the most important part of my job. I feel it is only a part of my job. My most important job is helping people, not just students, to find what they need to grow in the direction they feel a need to grow. I don't think I'm in the position to decide what fills that need, but I am in a position to help them see the possiblities. I want each person that enters my library to feel comfortable. What I enjoy or don't enjoy doing shouldn't be an issue.
