What a fascinating thread this has been! > It has been fun to read these postings and I tend to agree with both positions. Library work is service work along with promoting reading -- we need to be enthusiastic about reading, yes, and knowledgeable enough to recommend similar authors, etc., but what the kids remember, I believe, is our service to them. I remembered this morning reading Alice's posting that many years ago, when I took my first library job (a library aide position at a prison), the library director told me I would have so much time to read. I was thrilled but knew enough that I really didn't think she was correct. Well, she wasn't. I read much less in some ways and what I read has definitely changed -- lots more Young Adult, lots of children's, lots of non-fiction. And, during the school year book reading almost goes out the window, because I'm so busy and what I read are magazines, postings to LM_NET, etc., instead of books. That's why I always look forward to our annual Summer Reading Recommendations. Will this thread be starting soon? ;-) Elizabeth Letterly, District Librarian (Libby) Williamsville CUSD #15, Williamsville, IL 62693 eletterl@abelink.com eletterl@roe51.k12.il.us <*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*>*<*> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
