I want to thank the three people who replied to my query. Joan Kimball I asked: Have any of you felt uncomfortable using the CIP for Minty by Schroeder? It's a fictional account of the childhood of Harriet Tubman, and is classified by cataloging-in-publication in either 305 or B. The book, which is a picture book with great pictures by Pinkney, seems too fictional to me to be in non-fiction or biography. From LGR, April 11: This very same question came up last fall at St. Catherine's Best Books for YOung Readers discussion of the Notable BOoks. People felt as you did and were pondering where to put the book. Some participants suggested picture books and pairing it with a "real" biography of Tubman so that young readers would learn critical thinking skills. I know we have the book in the LMC, but I can't visualize where at the moment. Tuesday I'll check. From CCK, April 11: I agree with you. I put Minty in my fiction section. From OK, April 11: I agree with your assessment. Thus, I reclassified it in my library to our fictional picture book section.
