Barbara Herbert made some good points about shipping historical materials
to college libraries.  Let me add one more:  some college libraries are
not permitted to discard materials until a certain period of time has
elapsed.  I was a grad. assistant in a state-funded institution which had
to keep all materials for at least ten years; they had a major storage
problem.  Make it a practice to call or write a letter of inquiry before
donating materials.
