American Authors from specific geographical regions

I have a junior English teacher doing an assignment with American
Authors.  She would like to narrow their assignment down to geographic
regions--or more specifically by state.

Some states are easier to do than others.  I would be interested if
fellow librarians could give me a list of authors from their particular
state, chronological information would also be beneficial.  Current as
well as past well known authors is also desired.

I would take these name--and develop a file for her class to use.
