I received as many requests for a HIT as I did responses to my request for suggestions for a core collection of Fine Arts resources for a high school library. Here are the responses I received: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From Sue St. Ann Art: A CD entitled Great Artists is a hit with students. Students also like small books on individual artists and techniques. A Visual Arts ency. set has contained most information needed for Art 1. Music: A basic collection of composers's biographies; tapes, CD's of their most popular music; the most popular songs in musicals and operas, etc. for fine arts survey classes. -------------------------------------------------------------------- From Dale Copps: Art: http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/sca.htm#Art Dance http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/scd.htm#Dance Theater http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/scl.htm#Theater Note: the URL on this site will change soon. Keep posted on LM_NET for the new one. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From Joanne Ladewig: I ordered a lot of items from the SAX catalog - books, videos, cd's, computer programs, charts, etc. Also, PQLS (Publisher's Quality Library Service) often has recent books at discounted prices (on all subjects, not just the arts), and nearly all are "the best" titles so you don't have to worry much about getting "junk" or tracking down the reviews. Request the catalog for your age level. Grolier has a set of art reference books with each volume being a different time frame and region. I don't recall the series title but the bindings are a blue color. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks Sue, Dale and Joanne for your suggestions!
