Hello LM_NETTERs--

Does anyone have a color printing policy that seems to be working well
in your school's media center?

We are soon going to have an HP color inkjet printer available to both
students and teachers to print various school-related projects. Such
printouts may include signs, posters, banners, newsletters, digital
photographs, printouts from the internet, etc.

I know that indiscriminate printing may very well become an issue, which
we all know is wasteful and costly. However, we also know very well
that we need to be progressive to provide a medium that will accommodate
students and teachers to enrich learning experiences.

How do you manage the use of printouts, expenditures for inkjet
cartridges, paper, breakage, etc.? Also, when school clubs, sports
teams, and other extra-curricular organizations whose budgets vary in
size wish to have printouts made, do you charge them per page, have them
supply their own cartridges and special paper, and/or place limits on
their usage? (BTW, our normal charge is ten cents per page for laser
printouts from any electronic information database [i.e. SIRS, ProQuest,
etc.] for students and free printouts for any student-created
compositions using a word processor in the media center.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated and shared as a HIT. TIA.
