Dear Fellow Netters...
I am going to post this in hopes that someone out there can help me. This
is my first year in a high school library. During the summer there was
work done on the school network. When I got back from vacation, I
discovered that several records are missing...including catalog records,
patron records, Accelerated Reader Records and AR Tests. The best that I
can figure out is everything that was added on last year is lost. I had a
system backup that was done on June 6th but the computer whiz who lost the
information to begin with backed up instead of restoring the system. I do
have a printed shelf list that was done at the end of last year. I
inherited this library from a very organized and knowledgable person (Betty
Hamilton, that name will sound familiar to several of you). I would
appreciate any advice that you all can give me as to where to begin sorting
out this mess. And in answer to your question...NO, the computer whiz did
not make a back-up of the system before they began the work. The principal
also lost several of his records and programs. When I asked the company
about a back-up they told me they were only "cutting and pasting" and had
never had a problem.
                                  TIA
                         Francy Rains, LRS
