I am in an elementary school that has a new ESL unit this year. Members of a local club are interested in volunteering some of their time to work with these students toward improving their English-speaking abilities. During a meeting that was held on this subject yesterday (I was a bystander that just happened to overhear this), it was suggested that the club members record books onto audiocassetes in order to help these students. I knew this had been discussed recently on the listserv and that the general consensus was that this would be illegal. I mentioned this to my principal and she replied that her understanding was that the club members would buy the book then make the audio recording. Would this still be a copyright violation? Any help you could give would be appreciated.
