I am a first year, 9-12 librarian with no aid and no prep period. Jo Chinn's post struck a nerve with me. All through my library media program I was impressed with how important it is to plan with teachers, to be integral to curriculum development, to remember that I'm a teacher, curriculum specialist, and library media specialist. With my set up, it's darned hard to meet with teachers except by chance; we have committee meetings before school, and everyone sponsors something after school or would just as soon be left alone to correct papers. I'm learning to be creative in order to catch my teachers, but lack of a set planning time (or ANY planning time!) seems a little odd in a school that prides itself on its library and the administration thereof. Anyone with helpful advice will have my undivided attention!
