Re the question on Internet rsources for history of educaiton: Portions of "120 years of American Education - A Statistical Portrait" are online at the NCES site. Go to: http://nces.ed.gov/pubsearch/adform.htm To search NCES - type in "120 years" in the title line and you'll come to a description of the document called "120 years of American Education: A Statistical Portrait" along with some full-text portions There is also some very minimal information at: http://smitcnt.idbsu.edu/pit/FOCUS/winter/evolve.html "The Evolving Role of America's Public Schools" Hope this helps somewhat.
