Color Backgrounds

I must be getting older, but the color backgrounds that some of us use in the
list are very difficult to deal with.  I often have trouble reading the
material and I now simply skip over those messages.  Some of them actually
make the words illegible.  Is anyone else having this problem or is it me
and/or my computer monitor.
