Hi, All. I am having a problem that I'm sure is not unique. It concerns the media center's hard-earned book fair money. The problem is that my principal looks at it like a slush fund for whatever needs arise. This year alone, it has been spent on machine maintenance ($600), book sets for 5th grade ($500) and guided readers for primary classrooms (another $600). I have let her know that I have plans for that money. I am trying to "grow" it to buy a loft for our m.c. and a laser printer for our computer lab. Of course, it's never going to grow at this rate. What to do? My inclination right now is to spend it as soon as the fair is over, but that defeats my original purposes. I know it may sound greedy to some. I know that the main objective should be whatever is needed to enhance student learning. But you all know how labor-intensive a book fair is. We work hard for that money, and we don't get any from anywhere else. I want to be able to see the results of our efforts. I want my volunteers to see what they're working for. And I want to improve the learning environment in my media center. We have two book fairs a year. I am considering having only one unless this situation changes. Am I wrong? Please give me some feedback. Thanks.
