I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your cooperation with my
"collaborative planning survey." I wear too many hats these days, but I
wanted to share with you some of the information gleaned from the
information you and others gave me.

The support of your administration will make or break you.

When asked if they sought out teachers or did teachers seek them out, one
recipient replied, "Those who come to me are doing so primarily because I
have gone to extreme lengths in initiating contact." What does this tell
us about being proactive?

It is critical to use every opportunity to initiate collaborative planning;
in the hall, at lunch, in the grocery store, you name it. Advertising via
flyers, staff meetings, and in-school electronic networks are some of the
techniques tried by respondents.

Every school has a broad spectrum of teachers/media specialist involvement.
This appears to take time and usually requires constant reminders from the
media specialist about what she/he has to offer.

Flexible scheduling is critical for success of collaborative planning since
it frees up the media specialist to meet with classes when the timing is
right.

I wish you could read the wonderful responses I got and there are some
awfully dedicated and creative people in our field. 78% of you had
administrations that supported collaborative planning, 48% find both you
and the teachers seek each other out, 44% found teachers enthusiastic about
the help and another 39% found teachers response mixed. Most of you meet
in the library or media center mainly because of the convenience and the
lack of support staff to free you to participate outside of the media
center. Unfortunately, most of you are not included in planning session
when goals and objectives are set.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my
questions.
