***Request for Student and Teacher Contributions to a U.N. disasters mitigation site*** I am looking for student contributions to our U.N. web site. The url is: http://www1.shore.net/%7Eglobalw/ungp/ The link to Youths and Volunteer Program needs contributions. The focus is natural disasters, and, especially earthquakes. However, we are interested in articles containing great links to every kind of natural disaster and the scientists, safety experts, government decision-makers and rescue teams who work with natural disasters. This includes: -- what the disasters are and what they look like -- ideas about what causes them -- safety/education/preparation methods for natural disasters -- legends and myths around the world -- eyewitness accounts A committee will select postings for the site which is basically open right now. One student article which should go up soon discusses the challenges to disaster mitigation specialists in Mexico surrounding "Popo" the legendary and real, *LIVE* volcano, where many do not wish to evacuate, but would, instead, put flowers and prayers at Popo's feet. Please put this out to your teachers and students. I hope to hear from many of you soon!************** Joanne Joanne Sullivan, Williams Middle School Media Center Chelsea, MA 02150 joanne@shore.net Student Scientists Coordinator, UN Global Programme for the Integration of Public Administration and the Science of Disasters LM_NET Hospitality Committee Member a Team Leader for KidsConnect, a question-answering and referral service "Boldness has genius in it.
