HIT: Long Overdue - BIO STEW

Hello!

Sorry for the delay...Here is Patty Melville's recipe for Bio Stew.  She uses
it to intro-
duce bios to 2nd graders.

Bring big spaghetti pot, apron, hat, spoon - the works.  Inside the pot,
indredients are
colored strips of paper that say name, where lived, family members, favorite
activities,
birth date, why famous, etc.  Ask question "Does anyone know what a biography
is?"
Talk about things that go into a bio and get kids to pull out an ingredient
and read it.
Clip on chartboard, tell kids while you read this book about Martin Luther
King, listen
for indredients and when story is over, lets see who can remember some of the
facts.
The kids who answer each ingredient then returns the ingredient to the pot.
Have a
display of appropriate second grade bios,  (this would be a problem in my
library!)
to then talk up aand point to them in a special section.

Follow up:  next 3 weeks, work in pairs, interviewing each other on a form you
would have make out.  (has ingredients and other questions)  They put them in
ABC order and on last day you make it into a
collective class bio with cover, endpapers, dedication, etc.
