Hello,

I thought people might be interested in some of the latest developments of
The Virtual Reference Desk--a project interested in linking all K-12
community members to necessary expertise via the Internet. The Virtual
Reference Desk is sponsored by the National Library of Education (NLE) and
the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information and Technology. The project's Home
Page is found at www.vrd.org.

Here are some resources that can help library media specialists learn how
digital reference service can benefit students and staff:

*The new DIG_REF listserv discusses general digital reference issues.
While current membership is made up of many public and academic
librarians, library media specialists can offer input from a K-12
education viewpoint. For the official announcement and subscription
information, see http://www.vrd.org/Dig_Ref/dig_ref.html.

*AskA+ Locator--a searchable database of Internet-based question/answer
and referral services (e.g., KidsConnect, Ask Dr. Math). Library media
specialists, teachers, students, and others can search by title, subject,
or keyword to find the best service for a particular question. Detailed
information on each service and links to service Web pages are provided.
The Locator is found at http://www.vrd.org/locator/index.html.

If you have any questions about the DIG_REF listserv, AskA+ Locator, or
the overall Virtual Reference Desk project, please contact us at
vrd@vrd.org. We look forward to your participation and input in this
exciting area!

Thanks a lot and enjoy!

Abby
