TECH: Administrative Software

In the long, long ago days when our district ran almost all our computer

software on the Apple IIe, we utilized a software package called the
R.I.T.A. system.    This was a R(obotic) T(elephone) A(ssistant) which
our secretaries used to notify parents when students were reported
absent on the morning attendance.  The program was simple to operate.
At the beginning of the year we entered all the students names and phone

numbers, then daily the secretary keyed in the names of students
absent.  Immediately the computer would set to dialing the numbers and
playing a recorded message notifying the person who answered the phone
that the student was not at school and asking them to return a call to
the school.  The program would retry no answer numbers and busy numbers
and would continue calling for a default number of times.  At the end of

the dialing session a printout of those reached/not reached, etc was
available for liability purposes in the event a child was actually
missing.

While we are still utilizing the IIes for some purposes, the R.I.T.A.
system died.  We are now looking for Macintosh compatible sofware which
would function in a similar manner as described above.    If you are
