Job: Head Librarian for Osaka International School beginning with the =
1998-99 school year.=20

The Head Librarian for Osaka International School and Osaka =
Intercultural Academy will work with a Japanese school librarian and a =
staff of 3 part-time assistants. The successful candidate should have an =
advanced degree in library science from an institution with ALA =
accreditation or its non-American equivalent; should be familiar and =
comfortable with advanced technological tools, as the library is a =
center for the school's technology program and computer network; should =
ideally be bilingual in English and Japanese, though Japanese is not a =
requirement; and should be able to manage a complex library in a =
multi-cultural, multi-lingual environment.

Osaka International School is a school for students in pre-kindergarten =
through grade 12 with an enrollment of 250 students. OIS shares a =
facility with Osaka Intercultural Academy, a Japanese school for =
students in grades 7-12 with an enrollment of 370. OIS has an =
English-language program culminating in the IB curriculum and diploma. =
OIA has a Japanese-language program and is accredited by the Japanese =
Ministry of Education. Both schools share one bilingual library with a =
total of about 40,000 volumes divided equally between English and =
Japanese. The English-language collection is automated using The =
Columbia Library System. Networked computers in the library have access =
to Emas and SIRS plus the internet and student and faculty e-mail in =
both languages. The library subscribes to more than 200 magazines and =
has facilities for viewing video and laser discs plus a new multi-media =
lab. The library uses flexible scheduling.
