Subject: GEN:Vendors and LM_NET

I want all to know that we work very hard to avoid commerical announcements
and promotions on LM_NET. I also think it's wrong for a vendor to contact
a member unless the member has explicitly stated that he or she is
interested in hearing from vendors about products or services.

However, I do think it's important that vendors participate in LM_NET and
yes, even "lurk" on our conversations. More and more, we are in
partnership with vendors in terms of delivering quality information,
resources, and services to our students, faculty, and community. If our
commercial partners are "listening in," that should improve their knowledge
of our needs and where we are going with library media programs. Then,
they should be in a better position to work with us as well as to offer
better products and services.

Still - I urge all vendors - please do not contact any LM_NET member unless
they ask for input or to be contacted.

Thank you.

Mike
